LANDSCAPING & EROSION CONTROL

Fully biodegradable coconut fibre products for slope stabilisation, riverbank protection and landscaping. Manufactured to order and shipped with full export documentation.

Natural coir erosion control from Indonesia

Coir has been used for slope stabilisation and bank protection for decades because it does something synthetic geotextiles cannot. It holds ground while vegetation establishes, then it disappears. No plastic mesh left in the soil, nothing to retrieve, no microplastic entering the waterway.

We manufacture coir netting and coir logs in Indonesia and supply contractors, civil and environmental engineering suppliers, landscape supply yards and erosion control specialists. Products are made to order, which means mesh grades, roll sizes, log diameters and lengths can be matched to the specification rather than the other way round.

Coir net and coir logs

ProductWhat it doesKey optionsTypical sites
Coir netSurface geotextile. Holds soil across a face, slows run-off, shelters seedlingsMesh 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 cm at roughly 400 to 750 GSM. Roll width 1 m or 2 m, 50 m standard lengthSlopes, embankments, re-vegetation, turf and landscaping
Coir logsLinear barrier. Slows flow, traps sediment, protects a toe of slope or bank edgeDiameter 20, 30 or 40 cm. 3 m standard length. Coir or PP nettingRiverbanks, shorelines, hillsides, construction and civil works

Most jobs use both. Logs go in first along the contour or at the toe, net goes over the face, and planting follows.

Selecting a grade

Coir net

Mesh size and weave weight move together. The tighter the mesh, the heavier the net and the more soil it retains.

  • 5 x 5 cm, roughly 400 GSM. Gentle slopes, landscaping, turf reinforcement, light soil protection.
  • 4 x 4 cm, roughly 550 GSM. The general purpose grade for most slope and embankment work.
  • 3 x 3 cm, roughly 750 GSM. Steeper ground, higher flow, fine soils, sites where maximum retention matters.

Rolls are made from 100 percent twisted coir rope, 1 m or 2 m wide and 50 m long as standard.

Coir logs

  • 20 cm diameter. Light slopes and low flow situations.
  • 30 cm diameter. The standard specification for most bank and slope work.
  • 40 cm diameter. High flow sites, larger channels, exposed shorelines.

Logs are a dense coir fibre core held in netting. Coir netting gives a fully biodegradable product. PP netting holds shape longer where the specification allows it. Working life is roughly 2 to 5 years depending on flow, exposure and site conditions.

Why coir rather than synthetic

Three reasons come up repeatedly from the contractors and engineers we supply.

  • It disappears on purpose. Erosion control is temporary work. The permanent solution is root structure. Coir does its job during establishment and then breaks down, so nothing has to be removed and nothing persists on site.
  • Specification compliance. A growing number of environmental restoration and public works projects now require biodegradable materials. A coir log with coir netting meets that where PP netting does not.
  • It holds water. Coir retains moisture at the soil surface, which helps seed germinate and establish faster than bare ground under the same conditions.

Custom manufacturing

Because these products are made to order rather than pulled from stock, we can work to a project specification. Custom mesh grades, roll widths, log diameters and lengths, and a choice of coir or PP netting. If you are quoting against an engineer specification, send it across and we will confirm in writing what we can meet before you commit to anything.

Ordering and export

  • Minimum order: 1 x 20ft container. A 40ft high cube is usually better value per unit.
  • Lead time: 3 to 4 weeks after order confirmation.
  • Incoterms: FOB or CIF preferred, EXW also supported.
  • Loading port: Surabaya, Indonesia.
  • Container quantity: confirmed at quotation, since destination road weight limits vary.

Every shipment leaves with a phytosanitary certificate, a certificate of origin and a PEB export declaration. Fumigation and ISPM 15 compliant packaging are available where the destination requires it.

Tell us the site and the quantity and we will quote. Samples are free and you cover the courier.

Common questions

Should I use coir net or coir logs?
They solve different problems and are often used together. Coir net is a surface treatment that holds soil across a slope while vegetation establishes. Coir logs are a linear barrier that sits along a contour, a toe of slope or a bank edge to slow flow and trap sediment. On a typical slope job you would use logs at the toe and net across the face.
Which mesh grade of coir net do I need?
Mesh size and weave weight go together. 5x5 cm at roughly 400 GSM suits gentle slopes and light landscaping. 4x4 cm at roughly 550 GSM is the general purpose grade. 3x3 cm at roughly 750 GSM is for steeper ground, higher flow and sites where you need maximum soil retention. Custom roll widths are available.
How long do coir products last before breaking down?
Coir logs have a working life of roughly 2 to 5 years depending on flow, exposure and site conditions, which normally matches the time vegetation needs to establish and take over the job. Coir net breaks down on a similar timescale. Neither leaves plastic residue when specified with coir netting.
Can I get coir logs in a different diameter or length?
Yes. Standard diameters are 20, 30 and 40 cm at 3 m length. Other diameters and lengths are made to order. Netting can be coir or PP depending on whether full biodegradability is a project requirement.
What do you need from me to quote an erosion control project?
Slope or area size, mesh grade or log diameter, total quantity, destination port, and whether the specification requires fully biodegradable materials. If you are working to an engineer specification, send the relevant clauses and we will confirm in writing what we can meet.
